OCTOBER Garden Tips
- Fall color is everywhere! Now is a great time to head to your local nursery and get tree, shrub, or plants with the fall colors you love.
- What’s blooming? Sedum Autumn Joy is a pleasure in the garden and deer deer resistant. Growing 12” to 18” this succulent adds a gray leaf and great texture to the garden.
- What to prune this week....Crape Myrtle, Knock Out Roses, any shrub that won't flower in spring, ornamental grasses, liriope, mondo grass, Japanese Maples, any tree that won't flower in Spring, and roses.
- Now is a great time to plan your landscape! Fall is the very best time to Design and install plants trees and shrubs call us today
- Hydrangea that can be pruned now include 'Peegee', 'Oakleaf' , and 'Endless Summer and ‘line light’ . These varieties bloom on new growth.
- Camellia Sasanqua is in peak bloom during October, November and December . Read the labels for mature height and width. One of my favorite flowering shrubs
- Hold off, resist temptation, it is still too early to plant most of the summer annuals that are showing up in the garden centers.
- Remove faded flowers on perennials for improved flowering.
- It is time to select and plant Pansies. Space then close together for the most impact. Water with a little liquid fertilizer at planting for best results.
- Best way to rid your landscape of Pampas Grass? Use an electric hedge trimmer to prune the grass down as close to the roots as possible. This will take take a while. Then, bad news here, dig out the remaining pampas grass and roots. This will take a long while. Moral of the story, don't plant Pampas Grass.
